Fetal Kick Counts
Fetal kick counts are an assessment of fetal well being. Fetuses usually have a period of time during the day when they are most active this is usually in early a.m. or late p.m.
THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO DO KICK COUNTS. THIS IS DONE ONCE A DAY ONLY!
The baby does have sleep time during the day and you may not feel this much movement every hour of the day. Count any and all movements you feel. Once you get to 10 movements – STOP! Baby is doing well. You should continue counting for a 1- 1 ½ hour period until ten movements are felt. If you do not feel 10 movements in this period of time then, Drink some juice and eat some peanut butter. Lie down in a dark room and put your hands on your abdomen. Sometimes you can feel movement better with your hands than your body senses them internally. If you still do not feel the amount of movement necessary in the next hour then contact your doctor immediately.
